Community Scholarships

All students are invited to apply for scholarships in talent-based programs. Utah Tech University has an excellent Fine Arts Department, offering outstanding instruction in the performing arts. Most applicants are required to interview and/or attend tryouts in order to receive a talent scholarship. The Talent Scholarship Application form must be filled out online.

• This scholarship is for those who have the most need. Applicants must have a completed FAFSA for next year, except DACA/Undocumented/Dreamer students. • The Silent Leader Scholarship is an opportunity that recognizes and supports individuals who possess exceptional leadership qualities and potential. We are looking for students who are leading, but typically in an unofficial way. This is not a scholarship for those on campus who already have an official position in student leadership but rather for students that are leading change in an unofficial capacity. This scholarship aims to foster and develop the skills necessary to inspire and guide others towards positive change and success. It provides recipients with financial assistance, mentorship, and various resources to enhance their leadership abilities and make a lasting impact in their chosen fields. A leadership scholarship not only acknowledges the achievements and potential of its recipients but also encourages them to further refine their leadership skills, promote collaboration, and cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility. By investing in the development of emerging leaders, this scholarship cultivates a brighter future by empowering individuals to lead with integrity, vision, and a commitment to creating positive transformations in their communities and beyond.

• Awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from each of the Local High Schools, as well as one to one current UT student. • Awards $1,000 for resident student currently attending Utah Tech with preference given to those who are pursuing degrees in Social Service, Child Care, Child Advocacy, Law Enforcement, or similar areas that relate to the Children’s Justice Center’s mission. • UTSA provides scholarships to students who want to join the student government team with 39 stipend positions over 6 branches. The mission of UTSA is to be an advocate for all current students and aims to foster school spirit and create unity. Application opens usually during spring break is only open for 2-3 weeks before interviews start.

• These scholarships are awarded to students who work on the Sun News staff as editors, writers, reporters, designers and photographers, creating content for print, broadcast and online media. Scholarship amounts vary by position. Applicants must have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and maintain a 12-credit course load each semester. These scholarships require up to 18 hours of work a week outside of class and require registering for courses. 3/31 – SOUTHERN UTAH HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION (SUHBA) – FALL SEMESTER – COMMUNITY

• Each year, SUHBA will award scholarships to students pursuing post high school education. Preference for scholarships will be given to students pursuing construction-related education and students affiliated with SUHBA. The scholarship may be used to fund almost any post-secondary education, i.e., college or vocational, public or private. Recipients may be awarded up to $1,000 per academic year. Monies will be paid directly to the school of choice.

3/31 – INSPIRE SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – COMMUNITY

• The INSPIRE Scholarship is designed to support STEM majors that are Pell eligible. This scholarship will cover unmet financial need for students (on average $5000/year) for two full years (total average award of $10,000). Participants will need attend weekly study hall, meet regularly with an assigned mentor, and participate in multi-semester research and prototyping course series called the Innovative Solutions Course series. This course series will consist of three 1-credit lab-based courses. This courses series will immerse students in a multidisciplinary research project, training them for future careers that increasingly require interdisciplinary collaboration. Within the course, students will form interdisciplinary teams of different STEM disciplines, and be trained in research methods, modern prototyping techniques, and technology startup fundamentals. Students will solve modern real-world interdisciplinary challenges within the courses, and students can advance their solutions through either scholarly research or entrepreneurship at the completion of the program. These courses will run the first three semesters of the program, and meet on Friday’s from 1:00 – 4:00 PM. To be eligible, you must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA, be Pell eligible, and have at least two years of school before graduation.

• Applicants must be fully admitted to Utah Tech to be considered for this scholarship. Priority will be given to students with Advanced Standing status (3000 level classes or above). Application opens February 1st and closes March 31st. NO LATE APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED.

• Offers a total of four, $1000 scholarships to deserving students. Applicants must have attended at least one semester at Utah Tech prior to applying. Minimum 3.0 GPA and “Full-Time” status. Recipients are required to complete a progress report at the end of the semester.

4/1 – DIXIE LADIES OF ELKS SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – COMMUNITY

• Applicants for this scholarship must be full-time students in their second, third or fourth year of attendance at UT ( 24 credit hours completed). Scholarship is for graduates of a high school in Washington County or Kane County in Utah or Fredonia, Arizona to attend vocational schools in Washington County or UT.

• Scholarships are awarded to full-time, undergraduate nursing students with financial need. Applicants must be accepted into the Nursing Program and have a completed FAFSA application to be considered. Recipients will be selected by the Nursing Department.

4/15 – STUDENT TUITION FUND INC SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – COMMUNITY

• Volunteer service within the community and/or institution is in fact VERY important! It not only high lights an individual as an asset to society, but speaks to the kind of person they really are. Volunteer service doesn’t have to be “big” to have a positive impact. Often times, seeming small and simple acts of service can greatly impact communities and schools. Besides, everyone knows meaningful volunteer services looks GREAT on any resume! Student Tuition Fund Inc. honors qualified students who are currently providing volunteer service within their respective communities and/or schools through tuition scholarships. In addition to the tuition award, if chose, students will receive formal recognition from their respective city entity and University/institution, thanking them for what they do!

4/15 – WILLY THE PLUMBER SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – UT AFFILIATED

• The Willy the Plumber Scholarship is available to enable the children of inmates in the state’s correctional facilities to pursue a higher education. Intended recipients are graduates of any high school in the State of Utah who will be attending Utah Tech whose parent or individual acting in the role, are currently incarcerated in the Utah State Prison system, or have a history of chronic incarceration and are likely to return to prison while the student is pursuing post-secondary education. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a GPA of 3.0 but applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA.

4/15 – MICHAEL SCOTT CANNON SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – UT AFFILIATED

• Utah Tech University and the family of Michael Scott Cannon offer one scholarship each year to a Washington County Resident with a GPA between 2.0 and 3.75 who is attending UT as a full-time student. Qualifications are as follows; students who have overcome a life challenge, such as substance abuse either personally or growing up with a parent with substance abuse. For additional requirements please refer to the application.

• The Schneiter scholarship is for students interested in being considered for a scholarship of up to $1000 per year for full-time Juniors and Seniors in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The scholarship recipient(s) will serve as College of Humanities and Social Sciences Representatives who will be asked to attend scholarship luncheons and present at the Students With Grit luncheon. • Offers yearly scholarships to high school graduates of local high schools: Dixie, Snow Canyon, Pineview, Millcreek, Desert Hills, Hurricane, and Utah Arts Academy. Scholarship awards are administered though the Washington County School District Foundation. Applications should be sent to either the Foundation, or to one of the State Bank full services branches.

4/30 – WASHINGTON CITY LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – UT AFFILIATED

• The Washington City Lions Club Scholarship will award two $500 scholarships. Student must be a Washington City resident and have a minimum 3.2 high school GPA. To apply for the scholarship, applicants must submit the application with a 250 word essay on Community Service.

4/30  – ST GEORGE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP– FALL SEMESTER – COMMUNITY

• The St George Area Chamber of Commerce awards 5 scholarships or up to $2000 each year to full-time students working towards a first Bachelors degree who work at least 20 hours a week. Students must also be a graduate from a Washington County High School, as well as showing need through a completed FAFSA Application.  Scholarships are awarded based upon “financial need” rather than on grades or academic performance. Winners are required to attend the Chamber of Commerce Gala and be willing to share their story.

• National Advisory Council has established a scholarship for veterans who do not qualify for VA or Military Benefits. • Established to honor a long time Washington County educator and his wife, the Rulon D Orton and LaPrele Gubler Orton Education Scholarship awards $1000 scholarships to elementary education majors. Candidates must be UT students in good standing with a 3.0 GPA and accepted into the Elementary Education Program prior to making application. Students must have “Financial Need” as determined by FAFSA. A short essay must be submitted with your application, applications submitted without an essay will not be considered. Preference is given to Non-Traditional students, and those seeking an Elementary Education – Arts endorsement. • UT Staff Association offers two $500 scholarships each semester to a current part-time staff employee who is pursuing higher education here at Utah Tech. The primary purpose of the Utah Tech University Association is to foster a harmonious and cooperative relationship between administration, faculty, staff members, and students. • The Call to Action Scholarship Program offers eligible students unparalleled assistance so they can achieve their academic goals. The need-based scholarship funds the full cost of attendance for up to 4 years ($25,000 max annually) at non-profit, accredited public universities. Students must be a graduating high school senior, Utah Resident, have a 3.0+ high school GPA, completed FAFSA annually, have a goal of graduating with a Bachelors degree within 4 years or an Associates degree within 2 years. 5/10 – T.H. BELL SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – STATE OF UTAH SCHOLARSHIP

• All applicants must be classified as a “Resident” of Utah. Any student planning on teaching at a public institution within the state of Utah is welcome to apply, but preference is given to first generation education majors, and students admitted to the Education Department. This scholarship can only be awarded to students who declare intent to complete the prescribed course of instruction required for a teaching certificate.

• Fire & Ice Scholarship is a needs based scholarship for students who have at least a 3.0 GPA with at least 24 credits in college. Applicants must be able to show need of some kind through the application. Recipients may be asked to attend a luncheon or fundraising events for the Fire & Ice fundraising efforts.

• One to two scholarships each year to a Utah Resident with a GPA between 2.0 and 3.75 who is attending UT as a full-time student. First consideration to students who have overcome a life challenge, is service oriented, and demonstrates financial need. Student cannot be receiving a current academic scholarship. • Petersen Medical, Planned Parenthood, Dabney Law Office and other community supporters is offering a $500 scholarship designed to assist a student with disabilities who is attending college and has a 2.0 GPA or higher from the prior semester at college.

5/31 – SOUTHERN UTAH TRUCKING ASSOCIATION (SUTA) SCHOLARSHIP – FALL SEMESTER – COMMUNITY

• This scholarship is sponsored through the generosity of the Southern Utah Trucking Association (SUTA) members.  The scholarship is the result of the desire from the trucking industry to give back to the community by helping high school and college students further their education. Qualifying students may receive a scholarship ranging from $100 to $1,500 to assist them with tuition, fees and other program costs. Preference will be given, but is not limited to, students who are working toward an education in truck industry related fields such as: Drivers, Mechanics, Safety/Logistics, Human Resources, Marketing/Sales, Web Design, Members or relatives of members of the Utah Trucking Association.

5/31 – TRULACAMPUS COACH – FALL SEMESTER – COMMUNITY

• Trula Foundation awards 30 scholarships each semester (fall and spring) in the amount of $2000 for students with a 3.0 GPA and who are pursuing an applicable degree. A student does not need to have worked with the UT Pickleball Club before in order to apply. If a candidate is selected, they will be brought on to the team in either a player or officer role.
