Community Scholarships

Dixie State University is fortunate to have additional scholarship programs available to students. Each scholarship requires a separate application. Please read and follow the instructions, and submit transcripts or other documents by the designated deadline.

DSU Affiliated Scholarships

Stacking rules apply. When used in conjunction with any other DSU Scholarships, these max out at full in-state tuition. 

Dixie State University Staff Association

DSU Staff Association offers a $600 scholarship each semester to a current part-time staff employee who is pursuing higher education here at Dixie State. The primary purpose of the Dixie State University Staff Association is to foster a harmonious and cooperative relationship between administration, faculty,  staff members, and students. We invite all qualified employees to apply for this opportunity.

Dixie Legacy Scholarship - NEW

The Dixie Legacy & A Delmont and Karol Truman Scholarships are for students who are a child, spouse, sibling, grandchild, great-grandchild, niece or nephew of a Dixie Alum. These awards are one-year scholarships based on academic merit, financial need, and legacy status. This scholarship, when used in conjunction with any other scholarship offered through DSU cannot exceed cost of Tuition and Fees. Can be used for any semester.

These awards are one-year scholarships based on academic merit and/or financial need. This scholarship, when used in conjunction with any other scholarship offered through DSU cannot exceed cost of Tuition and Fees.

General Endowment Scholarship Application

This scholarship is funded by various endowments from across the nation, all of which have different preferences. Students must have at least a 3.0 and be working towards their first Bachelors Degree.

DSU Institute For Continued Learning (ICL)

Offers a total of four, $1000 scholarships to deserving students. Applicants must have attended at least one semester at DSU prior to applying and have no other scholarships from Dixie. Minimum 3.0 GPA and “Full-Time” status. Recipients are required to complete a progress report at the end of the semester.

DSU Board of Trustees Scholarship

Applicants must be a Utah Resident, DACA, or International student working towards a Bachelors or Graduate Degree. Minimum or 30 credits, 3.25 GPA and full time status to apply. Applicants must have some service hours prior to applying. Recipients are required to attend a Board of Trustees meeting.

Brad Stapley Memorial Scholarship - Pre-Med, Chemistry or Pre-Pharmacy -- NEW

The Brad Stapley Memorial Scholarship awards to Juniors or Seniors majoring in Pre-Med, Chemistry, or Pre-Pharmacy. Students must have at least a 3.5 overall GPA to apply.

FirePro Trent & Staci Curtis Scholarship - Business Majors or Business Owners- NEW

This scholarship is for full-time students who own a business, in the process of starting a business, or enrolled in the entrepreneurship class/lecture series. Preference is given to married students who are currently working their way through school. Business plan required to apply.

Wanda & Dale Barton Mathematics Scholarship -- NEW

This is a scholarship for full time students with strong moral character & integrity. Students must be entering their Junior or Senior year with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must be a declared Mathematics Major or Math & Computational Mathematics Major with an emphasis in Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or Scientific Computing, who has successfully completed Multivariable Calculus (MATH 2210).

DSU Single Parent Scholarship

Applicants must be custodial single parents attending DSU at least 6 credits per semester in an eligible program. Applicants must show financial need and single parent status through FAFSA. Current students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, incoming freshmen will be evaluated on Admissions Index.

Mountain America Credit Union

Mountain America Credit Union’s scholarship program launches February 1, with a total of six scholarships being offered to credit union members and their families. The scholarships are awarded based on a student’s academic performance, community volunteer service, a written essay about their educational and career aspirations, and their family financial situation.

Applications open February 1st with various due dates.

Mountain America Credit Union Scholarships

St. George Lady Lions

Awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from each of the Local High Schools, as well as one to one current DSU student. Scholarships are awarded based upon “financial need” rather than on grades or academic performance. Winners are required to attend the Scholarship Tea in April. AAUW (American Association of University Women)

American Association of University Women St George Branch advances equity for women and girls in Southern Utah through philanthropy, advocacy, and education. Each year we award scholarships, up to $1,000 each, to eligible female Utah Residents in the greater St George area who demonstrate a financial need and ability to finish their degree. Scholarship applications are open January 4, 2021 for the 2021-2022 scholastic year. All applications, ,letters of reference and transcripts should be submitted no later than the March 4, 2021, deadline.

Washington County Children's Justice Center Patricia Sheffield Scholarship - Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or Child Advocacy

Awards $1,000 for resident student currently attending DSU with preference given to those who are pursuing degrees in Social Service, Child Care, Child Advocacy, Law Enforcement, or similar areas that relate to the Children’s Justice Center’s mission. Applicants must have completed at least 24 credits with at least a 2.75 GPA.

Rebels Forever Scholarship

Awarded each year to Current Dixie State University students whose parent, grandparent or great-grandparent graduated from Dixie. Applicants must be at least a sophomore with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above, and be active in a club, organization or extracurricular activities at Dixie.

Joe & Dixie Bowler Scholarship - Virgin Valley HS Graduates

Applicants for this scholarship must be full-time students in their second, third or fourth year of attendance at DSU, with 24 credit hours completed and a minimum 2.8 GPA. Must have graduated from Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite, Nevada.

Awards one-year scholarships in Performing Arts to high school graduates planning to attend DSU, and students who are currently attending DSU. Auditions are required. For details contact your high school counselor, the Fine Arts Department, or the Celebrity Concert Series Office office.

Fire & Ice Needs Based Scholarship - NEW

Fire & Ice Scholarship is a needs based scholarship for students who have at least a 3.0 GPA with at least 24 credits in college. Applicants must be able to show need of some kind through the application. Recipients may be asked to attend a luncheon or fundraising events for the Fire & Ice fundraising efforts.

Southern Utah Home Builders Association (SUHBA)

Each year, SUHBA will award scholarships to students pursuing post high school education. Preference for scholarships will be given to students pursuing construction-related education and students affiliated with SUHBA. The scholarship may be used to fund almost any post-secondary education, i.e., college or vocational, public or private. Recipients may be awarded up to $1,000 per academic year. Monies will be paid directly to the school of choice.

Applicants for this scholarship must be full-time students in their second, third or fourth year of attendance at DSU ( 24 credit hours completed). Must have graduated from a local high school in Washington County and must be a US citizen. Dollar amount of award varied.

Student Tuition Fund Scholarship - NEW

Volunteer service within the community and/or institution is in fact VERY important! It not only high lights an individual as an asset to society, but speaks to the kind of person they really are. Volunteer service doesn’t have to be “big” to have a positive impact. Often times, seeming small and simple acts of service can greatly impact communities and schools. Besides, everyone knows meaningful volunteer services looks GREAT on any resume! Student Tuition Fund Inc. honors qualified students who are currently providing volunteer service within their respective communities and/or schools through tuition scholarships. In addition to the tuition award, if chose, students will receive formal recognition from their respective city entity and University/institution, thanking them for what they do!

Willy the Plumber Scholarship - NEW

The Willy the Plumber Scholarship is available to enable the children of inmates in the state’s correctional facilities to pursue a higher education. Intended recipients are graduates of any high school in the State of Utah who will be attending Dixie whose parent or individual acting in the role, are currently incarcerated in the Utah State Prison system, or have a history of chronic incarceration and are likely to return to prison while the student is pursuing post-secondary education. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a GPA of 3.0 but applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA.

State Bank Of Southern Utah

Offers yearly scholarships to high school graduates of local high schools: Dixie, Snow Canyon, Pineview, Millcreek, Desert Hills, Hurricane, and Tuacahn. Scholarship awards are administered though the Washington County School District Foundation. Applications should be sent to either the Foundation, or to one of the State Bank full services branches.

Michael Scott Cannon Scholarship - Life Challenge

Dixie State University and the family of Michael Scott Cannon offer one scholarship each year to a Washington County Resident with a GPA between 2.0 and 3.75 who is attending DSU as a full-time student. Qualifications are as follows; students who have overcome a life challenge, such as substance abuse either personally or growing up with a parent with substance abuse. For additional requirements please refer to the application.

Michael Scott Cannon Scholarship Application

Judith and Gene Schneiter

The Schneiter scholarship is for students interested in being considered for a scholarship of up to $1000 per year for full-time Juniors and Seniors in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The scholarship recipient(s) will serve as College of Humanities and Social Sciences Representatives who will be asked to attend scholarship luncheons and present at the Students With Grit luncheon.

Washington City Lions Club Scholarship -- NEW DEADLINE

The Washington City Lions Club Scholarship will award two $500 scholarships. Student must be a Washington City resident and have a minimum 3.2 high school GPA. To apply for the scholarship, applicants must submit the application below with a 250 word essay on Community Service to the Scholarship Office of Dixie State University. You can submit them in person to the Financial Aid and Scholarship office in the Holland Building on the DSU campus.

This is a scholarship for any Business or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) majors. NEW FJ Management Scholarship -- NEW REQUIREMENTS

The new FJ Management Scholarship is to help students get from freshman year to graduation. If awarded, provided the student meets the yearly eligibility, this scholarship is a 4-year scholarship that can pay up to tuition, fees, room and board, and a stipend for books and educational supplies for fall/spring semesters. It is intended to cover the gap of those educational costs after institutional, state and federal funds. See application for more stipulations and major requirements.

Though FJ Management has a new application with new requirements, they still want to give the opportunity for prior FJ Management Scholarship Recipients to reapply on new requirements. National Advisory Council Scholarship - Veterans

National Advisory Council has established a scholarship for veterans who do not qualify for GI Benefits. To apply you must be a student in good standing with DSU, you must submit your DD-214 and an essay stating your plans and why you deserve the scholarship to Steve Roberts, Veterans Coordinator, via sroberts@dixie.edu or directly to his office in the Browning Building.

Established to honor a long time Washington County educator and his wife, the Rulon D Orton and LaPrele Gubler Orton Education Scholarship awards $1000 scholarships to elementary education majors. Candidates must be DSU students in good standing with a 3.0 GPA and accepted into the Elementary Education Program prior to making application. Students must have “Financial Need” as determined by FAFSA. A short essay must be submitted with your application, applications submitted without an essay will not be considered. Preference is given to Non-Traditional students, and those seeking an Elementary Education – Arts endorsement. Petersen Medical, Planned Parenthood, Dabney Law Office and other community supporters is offering a $500 scholarship designed to assist a student with disabilities who is attending college and has a 2.0 GPA or higher from the prior semester at college.

TrulaCampus Coach Scholarship -- NEW

Trula Foundation awards 30 scholarships each semester (fall and spring) in the amount of $1000 for students with a 3.0 GPA and who are pursuing a degree in Communications, Applied Sociology, Psychology, Population or Public Health, Criminal Justice, or other applicable degree. While on scholarship, each campus coach will have their own coach to help them deepen their understanding of coaching from the student’s perspective, provide opportunity for personal growth, and develop greater coaching skills. Coaches will engage in coaching student classes, groups, clubs, or one-on-one with students through text, phone call, virtually, or in-person. Coaches will be prepared to dedicate between 4 – 7 hours per week on training, coaching, and meeting with their mentor. Trula Foundation is a non-profit company based in St. George, Utah that works with institutions of higher education to create peer campus coaching programs for campuses. We are striving to create a world where people are seen, heard, and valued. TrulaCampus™ Coaching is designed to foster connection and assist students in overcoming challenges that could become barriers to achieving their academic, personal, professional, and lifelong goals. We are doing this by creating a community of TrulaCampus™ Coaches on-campus to help students who aspire to achieve their goals and seek personal growth as they engage in guided coaching.

Southern Utah Trucking Association (SUTA)

This scholarship is sponsored through the generosity of the Southern Utah Trucking Association (SUTA) members.  The scholarship is the result of the desire from the trucking industry to give back to the community by helping high school and college students further their education. Qualifying students may receive a scholarship ranging from $100 to $1,500 to assist them with tuition, fees and other program costs. Preference will be given, but is not limited to, students who are working toward an education in truck industry related fields such as:

Bloomington Dental Scholarship - Dental or Healthcare

Bloomington Dental and Chris A Neilson DDS have been involved in the St George community since 1997. Giving back is what makes a difference in many lives and we want to help those around us. This year we will be giving a scholarship to one student who is pursuing a career in the healthcare field or dentistry with a $1,000 scholarship to Dixie State University. Must be accepted to Dixie as a Full Time student with a declared major in the field of healthcare or dentistry.

Sponsors scholarships for the National Guard, Reservists, or Veterans (or spouses of veterans), with priority given to members of the 222nd. Student must hold a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate “financial need”.
